A Review: Love, Trust & Pleasure (A BOK novel) by Kai Leakes

Love, Trust, & Pleasure (Brothers of Kemet Book 1) by [Leakes, Kai]

Black on black on black! Black love is in abundance in Kai Leakes newest release, Love, Trust & Pleasure. This is the first book in her Brothers of Kemet (BOK) series. Let me just go ahead and let you guys know that the further along this series gets, the more you’re going to love the men you meet. I have my fave, but let me get into this review.

Kai Leakes gave us everything romance in this book. Kwame is tall, dark and handsome in every sense of the word. We learn early on that he is still grieving the loss of his wife. Throughout the novel, Kai Leakes does a great job of showing this without making it the focal point of why Kwame is who he is. He’s a business man who is about the business of making sure any woman on his list gets all the pleasure she can handle and then some.

Meanwhile, Karma is on the other side of town dealing with a whole mess of a man. I refuse to even mention that clown’s name. If ever there was a definition of a f*ck boy, Karma’s man was it. He takes the whole darn cake when it comes to being the worst thing that could ever happen to a woman. Not only that, Karma’s job has gone up in smoke! Luckily for her, she knows someone who knows someone who knows Kwame…

What I love about Love, Trust & Pleasure is that, while sparks do fly when Kwame lays eyes on Karma, it’s definitely not what you’re thinking. I love that this wasn’t a love-at-first-sight story and that the characters had to work their way to that. Karma did some stuff in this book that made me wonder if she liked going through bullcrap for the sake of going through bullcrap. Some of the things she did got a heavy side-eye from me. That was my only issue with her character.

This book gave us romance, love, lust, a sprinkle of side-eye worthy moments, with a whole lot of pleasure!

All-in-all, I give Love, Trust & Pleasure four-and a half-pages (think four-and a half-stars).

Black Film Review: Only 4 One Night

So last night/early this morning, I had the unfortunate chance to watch the movie Only 4 One Night, starring Brian White and Karrueche Tran. It was over an hour of my life that I can't get back. To make matters worse, I was in the kitchen pouring myself some libations when the opening credits were rolling so I didn't get to see that child molester, Chris Stokes, had directed this movie. I didn't find that out until after the fact. The premise goes a little something like this: Brian and Karrueche are happily married, the perfect couple. Karrueche's sister suffers a great loss, ends up in their guest room. Karrueche has to leave to go support her and Brian's son. The sister is left with the husband...and you know where this is going. But listen, the movie was basically a rip off of all the other movies about crazy women becoming obsessed with men after sex or just becoming plane ol' obsessed. If you've seen Obsessed, Single White Female, Hand that Rocks the C…

Dirty Diana: A Review

Wow! What a great short story. "Dirty" Diana was a bad arse MMA fighter, but after a disappointing last fight, she thought things couldn't get any worse. That was until a call from her aunt turned her world upside down. Diana never thought she would set foot back into her small hometown, however, the fates had other plans. While home, Diana confronts all the demons she thought she'd left behind. Dirty Diana may not have gotten closure the way she expected, but life doesn't always work that way. Life had always thrown Diana curveballs and this time was no different. For the record, Dwight deserved every bit of "that."

Ms. Mason did a wonderful job of giving us a short story with an intriguing beginning, a climatic middle, and a complete ending. I give this book five-pages (think five-stars). Nikki-Michelle recommends this book!

Coming soon: Tell Me No More

“He’s getting married!”
“What?”
“Jamie… he’s getting married,” I repeated frantically.
There was a wild look of panic in my eyes, I was sure. My whole world seemed to be crashing down around me. Nothing prepared me for the news that the man I still loved was about to walk down the aisle and make another woman his wife. Kay had to catch me in her arms before my legs gave out on me. For four years I’d been trying to come to grips with the fact that I’d let a good man get away.
Jamie and I had been together for almost two years before I’d cheated on him with my son’s father’s best friend. I’d met Jamie while I was head over heels in love with Aric. Even after finding out Aric was married, I held on to hope that he and I could be together. That was until his wife, Stephanie, tried to kill me and my son while I was pregnant with him. Even then, it took a while for me to see that Aric and I just weren’t meant to be together.
I finally saw that Jamie was the man I needed. Everything was g…
