Classic Black Films Reviews: Soul Food and Belly

I'm watching all of the old black movies that I've never seen. I started with Soul Food and Belly. Out of five-stars, I give Soul Food a five-star rating. I enjoyed the family dynamic and all of its messiness. Chile Cousin Faith shouldn't have been trusted on the strength of that jacked up bang.
Out of five-stars, I give Belly a glaring negative one-star. That movie was horrible, acting absolutely terrible. And I would have given it two-stars (because I liked how DMX's character ended up changing and the fact that Nas's character got his family to Africa) but DMX's character teaching a sixteen to suck his penis at age eleven was a huge NO for me. Rape culture anyone?
I'm headed to watch Love & Basketball and Brown Sugar next. Reviews will follow. And no, I didn't watch any of the black movies when they came out. And yes, I will keep my black card. Fight me, ho.
