Sister You Are More Than Your assETS: A Review

This is another stop on a new slate of reviews I'll be posting on Nikki-Michelle's Spot. Before I ever had dreams of becoming a writer, I was a reader. That hasn't changed. I love to read. A good book can always take me away like Calgon.  Next up, Sister You Are More Than Your assETS by Angelia Vernon Menchan. I should note that this book is NOT on Kindle Unlimited. As a reader, I'm a fan of Kindle Unlimited. If you're a reader looking to test a new author, KU is a good investment, especially in this market of....eh, that's a story for a different day. Back to Sister You Are More Than Your assETS.

Whew! What can I say? Where do I start? Long before I became a fan of Mrs. Menchan's books, I was a fan of what she calls her 'ramblings' on Facebook. All through her Facebook page you can tell she has pride in herself, pride in her children, pride in her work, and just overall pride in her family and  her life. I would often ask myself what it would be lik…

UPDATE: How NOT to respond to a review...

I posted a review for a book I read and actually enjoyed. ALFONZO by S.W. Frank. You can read the review here.  While I didn't think I attacked the author or that I had given her a bad review (three-stars isn't bad, right?), one of her readers thought otherwise.

FeversD says:
First things first...And what makes you the expert Ms. Nikki-Michelle? Because you do not like series, that is you! Other readers find this Series fantastic! And furthermore, as an Author yourself, you should feel some kind of way, to tear apart a fellow author! This is what is drastically wrong with the African American Genre...we are so busy tearing each other down instead of supporting one another! Nora Roberts, and James Patterson and many more write extensive series that are very successful! And do you know why...because their fellow authors are not stabbing them in the back, but instead supporting them! The craft is just that and we all should rejoice in the diversity of great author minds. However,…

Black President 3: A Review

This is another stop on a new slate of reviews I'll be posting on Nikki-Michelle's Spot. Before I ever had dreams of becoming a writer, I was a reader. That hasn't changed. I love to read. A good book can always take me away like Calgon.  Next up, Black President 3 by BHE. I should note that this book is on Kindle Unlimited. As a reader, I'm a fan of Kindle Unlimited. If you're a reader looking to test a new author, KU is a good investment, especially in this market of....eh, that's a story for a different day. Back to Black President 3.

Well, I'm back again with another review for book 3 in the Black President series. I must say, while this book didn't hold back any punches, it didn't get my emotions toiling like the last two books. However, Brenda Hampton is never one to disappoint. Book three picks up where book two left off. Last book, we all know someone tried to cause the president great bodily harm and it would have worked if not for the presi…

ALFONZO (Alfonzo Series Book 1): A Review

This is another stop on a new slate of reviews I'll be posting on Nikki-Michelle's Spot. Before I ever had dreams of becoming a writer, I was a reader. That hasn't changed. I love to read. A good book can always take me away like Calgon.  Next up, ALFONZO (Alfonzo Series Book 1) . I should note that this book is NOT on Kindle Unlimited. As a reader, I'm a fan of Kindle Unlimited. If you're a reader looking to test a new author, KU is a good investment, especially in this market of....eh, that's a story for a different day. Back to ALFONZO.

First thing first: this series has seventeen books. If one of my readers hadn't recommended it, I wouldn't have even bothered. No way will I ever stick to a series that is seventeen books long. If I don't know the whole story by book three, I'm pretty much done. That being said, I gave S.W. Frank a try because Danielle recommended it and she's pretty good at picking out books, but even she said she was done…

Meredith Wild's Hacker Series & Bridge Series Giveaway!

Hello, my page turners and bookends! A few weeks ago, I entered a mega giveaway that Meredith Wild, New York Times Bestseller and author of  the wildly popular Hacker Series, was hosting. Out of over 14,000 who entered, I was one of the 300 chosen winners. Imagine how excited I was to get the email that lil' ole me  had been chosen as winner. Now imagine that excitement a hundred times over when I actually opened the door to see my postman delivering boxes of books!

The Hacker Series  has a total of four books. I won ten of each. I also won ten copies of book one to her Bridge Series. So after I took my cut (LOL), I'm now left with nine books of each story from the Hacker Series and nine copies of book one from the Bridge Series. So because Meredith was generous to me, I'm going to return the favor.

I won't ask you to jump through hurdles win these books either. All you have to do is leave a comment on this post and I'll randomly select winners. I'll also post…

Naughtier Than Nice: A Review

This is another stop on a new slate of reviews I'll be posting on Nikki-Michelle's Spot. Before I ever had dreams of becoming a writer, I was a reader. That hasn't changed. I love to read. A good book can always take me away like Calgon.  Next up, Naughtier Than Nice by Eric Jerome Dickey. I should note that this book is NOT on Kindle Unlimited. As a reader, I'm a fan of Kindle Unlimited. If you're a reader looking to test a new author, KU is a good investment, especially in this market of....eh, that's a story for a different day. Back to Naughtier Than Nice.

Man, whew. I've waited so long for EJD to get back to this style of writing. Now don't get me wrong I love Gideon and  the chick from A Wanted Woman, but I longed for the day EJD would get back to the Cheaters and Liar's Game style of writing. Once I read One Night earlier this year, I knew I was going to get Naughtier Than Nice. First off, let me say it did my heart some good to get an update…

Black President 2: A Review

This is another stop on a new slate of reviews I'll be posting on Nikki-Michelle's Spot. Before I ever had dreams of becoming a writer, I was a reader. That hasn't changed. I love to read. A good book can always take me away like Calgon.  Next up, Black President 2: The World Will Never Be the Same by BHE. I should note that this book is on Kindle Unlimited. As a reader, I'm a fan of Kindle Unlimited. If you're a reader looking to test a new author, KU is a good investment, especially in this market of....eh, that's a story for a different day. Back to Black President 2.

I am shaking my darn head after this one! So Black President 2 picks up right where part one left off and let me just say, President Stephen Jefferson needs his behind handed to him. But let me not  jump ahead of myself. Book two opens up with First Lady Raynetta Jefferson in her feelings about the President's trip to Africa. She knows very well what her husband has been up to and she in no…

Angelborn: A Review

Wow! Angelborn was a breath of fresh air. Since the passing of L.A. Banks, I've been hard pressed to find speculative fiction by AA authors that captured my attention the way Mama Banks once did. Besides the greats, like Octavia Butler, I was trying to find new authors and happened to stumble across the name L. Penelope. She had two books on Amazon. After reading each synopsis, I decided on Angelborn and boy am I glad I did. So…

Glimmer in the Darkness (Forgiveness): A Review

This is another stop on a new slate of reviews I'll be posting on Nikki-Michelle's Spot. Before I ever had dreams of becoming a writer, I was a reader. That hasn't changed. I love to read. A good book can always take me away like Calgon.  Next up, Glimmer in the Darkness (Forgiveness) by Nicole Hampton. I should note that this book is NOT on Kindle Unlimited. Back to Glimmer in the Darkness.
Whew. I read Glimmer in the Darkness (Forgiveness) by newcomer Nicole Hampton based on the reference of one of my friends on Facebook. They posted the link to the book and the synopsis. So I decided to take a look at it on Amazon. I read the prologue and was hooked. I was thinking ‘WOW!’ from the first line. However, after the prologue when Vaneetra, the mistress of Daniel, showed up to …

WHEW! When I tell you this book kept me up reading it long after I said I was going to bed, I ain't lying. So let's get into it. The book opens up with First Lady Raynetta Jefferson voicing her disdain for all the disrespect that had been flung at her and her husband, President Stephen Jefferson. I should make note that Stephen is the second Black President in this book as President Obama's reign had come …

One Night: A Review

This is the first stop on a new slate of reviews I'll be posting on Nikki-Michelle's Spot. Before I ever had dreams of becoming a writer, I was a reader. That hasn't changed. I love to read. A good book can always take me away like Calgon. Next up is 'One Night' by Eric Jerome Dickey. I actually reviewed this on Amazon a few months back, but wanted to add it to my website. So here goes and no, this is NOT on Kindle Unlimited.

I read this book in a matter of hours.I'm not quite sure how to explain this one. While the ending made me want to toss my laptop across the room, I know that Jackie and Mr. Orange County will stay with me for a long time. This story takes place over the span of twelve hours and I don't feel like anything was missing. I loved the way race was discussed. That "Welcome home"/ "Halfway home" thing made me chuckle a bit.

This book reminded me of the EJD of old. This type of writing is what made me a die-hard EJD reader.…

Disrespectfully Yours: A Review

This is the first stop on a new slate of reviews I'll be posting on Nikki-Michelle's Spot. Before I ever had dreams of becoming a writer, I was a reader. That hasn't changed. I love to read. A good book can always take me away like Calgon. I went to Memphis this past weekend to a literary event and one of the books I purchased was 'Disrespectfully Yours' by Raynesha Pittman.  I should note that this book is on Kindle Unlimited. As you know, as a reader, I'm a fan of Kindle Unlimited. If you're a reader looking to test a new author, KU is a good investment, especially in this market of....eh, that's a story for a different day. Back to Disrespectfully Yours.

Well to start, reading this book was stressful. There was nobody in this book I could root for, no one! Everybody had their own agenda and at times it got to be a bit too much. The book opens and we meet a young, teenage Meagan. She is blissfully in love with her godfather, who is planning on leaving …

Bi-Visibility Week

It's Bi-Visibility Week! For those not familiar, this is a week set aside to recognize the 'B' in the LGBTQA+ community. We celebrate the gays and the lesbians, the trans, the queers, and even the non-binary, but when it comes to the B-word, many shun them, even going as far as the brush their sexuality under the rug. I've written about this before in another blog where I was promoting my new book Bi-Satisfied. Since it's sometimes easier for women to claim  their bisexuality, I'd like to focus on the men, the black bi-sexual men.

They have the hardest time coming out with their sexuality. Quiet as kept, on some fronts, being a gay black man is more acceptable than being a bi-sexual black man. In the Black community, people don't be believe a man can be bi-sexual. He's either gay, straight, or living on the down-low (the DL). In the Black community, if a Black man has hinted around to being even remotely attracted to men, all hell will break loose. Thi…

A Holiday Wish: A Review

This is the first stop on a new slate of reviews I'll be posting on Nikki-Michelle's Spot. Before I ever had dreams of becoming a writer, I was a reader. That hasn't changed. I love to read. A good book can always take me away like Calgon. Therefore, I put a post on my Facebook page that I was looking for authors to feature on my website. One of the authors who answered was Rose Jackson-Beavers. I asked her what book of hers should I read and she suggested her book, A Holiday Wish. I should note that this book is NOT on Kindle Unlimited. As you know, as a reader, I'm a fan of Kindle Unlimited. If you're a reader looking to test a new author, KU is a good investment, especially in this market of....eh, that's a story for a different day. Back to A Holiday Wish.

I had the pleasure of reading A Holiday Wish by Rose Jackson-Beavers. The story is for my readers across all genres but mainly traditional Christian fiction lovers. The book opens with high school senior,…

Love's Culture: A Review

I started this series with high hopes. You have Sadia, who is a PR specialist and a bookstore owner, and Mahad who's an Arabic architect and a well-off business man. The two meet and sparks fly, almost instantly. Mahad's friend Cyrus i…

Are you Bi-Satisfied?

Are you Bi-Satisfied? I am. I'm so happy with the release of my book. The sales are doing pretty damn good. Although, I'm a bit saddened it hasn't come out on Kindle yet, but believe me, I keep stalking Amazon to see when it will be released on the e-book format. This book isn't for everybody and I was aware of that when I wrote it. However, it's still a good story. I wish people could get past their fear and/or disgust of two masculine black men being intimate with one another and enjoy the story instead of focusing solely on the bisexual aspect of it, although it is a huge part of the story.

I want to say thank you to all of my readers and friends who have supported me by buying the book. Aamirah, Shantel, Gabby, Kai Leakes, Tanishia, Kat, Kattory, and HUGE shoutout to Sammie Preston. You guys rock! Much love to my agent, who always has my back. Thank you to James C. Lewis of Noire 3000 Studios in Atlanta, Georgia for my eye-catching cover and the female cover mo…

FIVE MORE DAYS!!!

Holy hell! In FIVE more days, 'Bi-Satisfied' will be on the shelves. I'm nervous. I'm elated. But most of all, I'm apprehensive. I don't know what to expect. I'm not sure how my readers will feel about this story. I know many of my friends on FB are Christians and will frown upon the content in this book. I don't care, but what my loyal readers think matter the most to me. This is the first time I decided to venture these waters and this book means so much to me. Took me thirty days or so to write it. Then I edited and re-wrote it until I couldn't anymore. I sent it to my agent and sat around for days, nervously anticipating her feedback. Once she got back to me with her thoughts, I knew I had a winner.

In FIVE more days, you get to meet David, Summer, and Michael. David is my favorite character in this book. I decided to write about a black man who is comfortable in his sexuality and one who knows how to be honest and love unconditionally. It wasn…

I've been bad!

Okay, so I made a promise to post at least three times a week. Well, I haven't posted since the 11th! I know, that's horrible, but I've been working hard trying to get these books finished so I can get them out to you, my readers. I love and appreciate you all so much. So I want to make sure I keep that end of the bargain as well. All That I'm Missing At Home is almost done. Once it's off my desk, I'll have a lot more free time to write on the blog. I'll be back by Friday with something worth reading. LOL!

A fellow scribe!

Kai Leakes is one of my favorite writers. I remember when I first read Sin Eaters. The story wasn't even done yet, but I knew that she had something good on her hands. Khamun, Sanna, the Medusa, the Dark Lady, the Mad King, the Dark Prince, and my all-time favorite, CALVINNNNNNNNNNN left their mark on me. Therefore I thought it was only right that I share them with you. Follow this link to her website and get to know the lady behind the pen.

Me new novel! The good, the bad, and the ugly...

So, I'm working on a new novel. It's titled 'All That I'm Missing At Home'.  I'm actually very proud of this story and everything is going well. The bad part about that is, while working on this novel (which I'm half way done with), I keep hearing Aric, Jamie, and Chyanne in my head. They really want me to to tell their last and final story. I already have the title and the outline. However, I have a feeling that in 'Tell Me No More' they will all flip the script on me. And therein lies the ugly.  I have just how I want everything to play out in my head, but something tells me that the crew have their own ideas in mind. I can't complain though, at least I'm writing and that's always a good thing.
